Inlet Gap Influence on Low-Frequency Flow Unsteadiness in a Centrifugal Fan

چکیده

In this study, unsteady low-frequency characteristics in a voluteless low-speed centrifugal fan operating at high mass flow rate are studied with improved delayed detached eddy simulation (IDDES). This study is motivated by recent finding that the non-uniformly distributed pressure inside type of could be alleviated improving gap geometry. The present results show velocity magnitudes have distinct low and regions. Intensive turbulent structures developed low-velocity regions swept downstream along intersection between blade shroud, on side blade. Eventually, turbulence gives rise to high-pressure region near blade’s trailing edge. behavior revolves around rotation axis. Additionally, its period 5% speed, based analysis time history evolution region. same frequency was also found previous experimental measurements. To authors’ knowledge, first trigger turbulence, i.e., local velocity, has been determined.

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder

In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...

The influence of an adaptive nacelle inlet lip on fan noise propagation

The aeroacoustic performance of an adaptive inlet of a turbo-fan engine is numerically investigated in this paper. The sound intensity and directivity of the fan noise propagation to the far-field, and the sound level at lateral reference points are investigated. The investigation is performed for three Helmholtz numbers, with the influence of the mean flow included, for a single duct mode (8,1...

Numerical study on the acoustic field of a centrifugal fan and the tonal noise sources

The widespread use of squirrel cage fans, especially in ventilation and home and industrial environments, has led to the formation of many research efforts to improve performance and reduce the sound produced by this type of fan. In the literature, the most important factor in generating sound in this category of fans is the confrontation between the rotor exit flow and the volute of the fan. I...
